La Bella Electric Bass Guitar Deep Talkin' Bass Light, .043 - .104, Stainless Steel Flat Wound, 760FLstar rating 5CamMay 27, 2011First time I tried LaBellas I got a bad set. I just assumed they were not good strings for me--I had nothing to compare them to so I didn't know enough to return them (they had machine oil on them to the degree that the packets were stained and the strings just did not sound good). A friend urged me to try them again and I'm glad I did. I now have them on two basses. If you like 1960s and early 70s bass tones, these are the strings you want. Lots of clear, warm bass. Love them to death.

La Bella Electric Bass Guitar Deep Talkin' Bass Light, .043 - .104, Stainless Steel Flat Wound, 760FLstar rating 5AlAugust 11, 2010I had ordered one set of 760FL's before and was very happy with them. This time around, I noticed something that got me a bit worried; the individual envelopes that the strings came in were stained with some oily substance, and yes... the strings themselves felt (and smelled) oily! I was worried that this would "kill" the openness of tone that I had enjoyed on the first set, but a quick wipe-down of each string with some paper towels, and I was good to go! The tone was all there! I guess the oiliness is the byproduct of the manufacturing process or maybe some kind of protective coating. These strings have a solid, fundamental tone that still retains a bit of harmonic content that creates a good bit of what I'd call "growl" on my Yamaha BB1200! Great strings!

Answer (with apologies up front to non-meat eaters): like bacon-wrapped, grass-fed fillet mignon! (Ok... full disclosure, I'm a non-meat eater myself, but I remember the bygone days.) The tone that these strings produce (on a PJ-bass with DiMarzio pickups) is, on one end, a crunchy, blunt-force shot to the gut, and on the other, subtly nuanced that lends itself to a wide variety of applications. This is the only flat I will ever buy again!

La Bella Electric Bass Guitar Deep Talkin' Bass Light, .043 - .104, Stainless Steel Flat Wound, 760FLstar rating 4MikeFebruary 14, 2010I put these strings on my 1974 Ric Bass and they were abit tighter than the 30 year old Ric strings that I had been playing. After playing them for awhile I got used to the feel of them and the Old Ric sound is back. I can darken them up using the tone control for a deeper fender sound. These may be the best we can get for the Ric's anymore.

ChandlerJanuary 18, 2010When I got my first fretless I figured TIs were the way to go. In the end I found them tonally/tensionally imbalanced and had to change, and I went through several brands. When I landed on these (specifically in this gauging), I decided I was done searching. These flats are awesome because they are tensionally balanced, even string-to-string response, and the tone is quite flexible. The warmth is certainly there, but yet these things even sound good played with a pick! I think the greatest thing these string have to offer is that they have a wide spectrum of tones that varies specifically with the user's attack, giving the bassist a lot more flexibility on the spot. They get my highest marks for modern and vintage fretless tones.

I have tried many different brands, but the balance in these sets never disappoints. They feel a little sticky in the beginning, but after a few weeks the feeling goes away. Absolutely fantastic sound from any Fender I put them on!! Try a set, you will not be disappointed.
