I am used to .050W E strings but I decided to go a bit lighter, but these are not lighter at all. I would recommend going down to .046w or even .044w if you want a detectable decrease in gauge. Unfortunately I am stuck with these .048w as well as the .038w and .028w which I bought in bulk. This is not to say they are bad strings because they are nice quality, they are just a lot thicker than I expected.
