GHS Mandolin Classical Extra Light Gauge, .009 - .032, for Potato Bug and other fragile instruments, A240

GHS Mandolin Classical Extra Light Gauge, .009 - .032, for Potato Bug and other fragile instruments, A240star rating 5KevinSeptember 26, 2011I use these on both my mandolins. A Godin A8 and a refurbished original Samick. These strings last a long time and keep their tone for an extended period of time. Just as long as the "coated" strings in my opinion. The light weight of the string allows for effortless articulate "Hammer Ons" and "Pull Off" techniques. The heavier mandolin strings make these techniques impossible. Volume is not a problem at all; I find they cut through quite well acoustically and have a pleasant depth to the sound. Not "tinny" at all.

I've never ordered strings online, but that will soon change. I play several stringed instruments which require replacement periodically. The prices and choices are exceptional!

GHS Mandolin Classical Extra Light Gauge, .009 - .032, for Potato Bug and other fragile instruments, A240star rating 5CatherineAugust 16, 2010These are fine strings - nice tone. I personally have not noticed a significant lost of volume or power. I feel better about being able to take some stress off my old (1907) Gibson A-1 and perhaps preserve it a little longer.
GHS Mandolin Classical Extra Light Gauge, .009 - .032, for Potato Bug and other fragile instruments, A240star rating 5Big KeithMarch 12, 2010The PB strings have now been fitted to my Mando and gave a warmer tone After trying lots of different weights and makes of strings this proved to be the ideal combination. It made the tone more jazz/celtic as opposed to bluegrass, The action is now perfect,(less buzzing too) The faster rebound on these strings made playing faster and more accurate. Now fitted, previously suspected I wouldn't even need or want to try others. The Mando has now become playable for my Son and Wife, whereas the stadard strings were stronger but made the thing virtually unplayable. Tone has considerably improved If your outside USA non tarnished ones are hard to find, and postage is prohibitive. I sent mine to a US friend, who then sent them on, and it worked out less than half the cost on postage.
