For years I was convinced that 45 gauge strings could produce the sound that I had been accustomed to have coming from whatever bass I was playing. Then a peculiar thing occurred, i began to mature as a musician, and as a result, my previous, steadfast convictions about many things began to erode. Thus, i realized that my attack on the strings had changed, and so had my sound. I realized that I no longer need a heavy string to produce what has become a fuller, more resonant tone, which, in turn, has brought me to a deeper understanding of harmony, and believe it or not, funk.
