D'Addario Electric Guitar Environmental XL Jazz Rock, .011 - .049, EXL115

D'Addario Electric Guitar Environmental XL Jazz Rock, .011 - .049, EXL115star rating 5VladimirJanuary 22, 2011Very good strings. Sound is smooth and dense, warm and mellow - classic "les paul tone". Good balance, pleasant feelings, well price/quality ratio - very impressive set!

I use .11's on my 24 & 3/4" scale guitars and .10's on my 25 & 1/2" guitars now. I like roundwounds because you can get a 'chompy', Freddie Greene type sound more easily than with flats, can cover all of the finger noise and brightness with a tone control (like Adam Rogers does) for straight bop, and can still have acceptable pop/rock/funk/blues/country sounds (and I can play slap guitar with them!) I guess it would be nice to have an extra set of GBE strings because the wound strings seem to last longer, but for $3.71 it doesn't get much better than these strings!

It's light enough to bend for 3 sets without killing you, yet there is enough tension to work for bottleneck and jazz without feeling too floppy. This set is ideal for a "musical chameleon" who needs to cover alot of bases stylistically on one axe.

If you are looking for strings that are light enough to be nice and bendy but heavy enough to work on a Bigsby equipped hollowbody guitar then look no further!
