D'Addario Electric Bass XL Nickel Wound 6 String Bass Long, .032 - .130, EXL170-6

D'Addario Electric Bass XL Nickel Wound 6 String Bass Long, .032 - .130, EXL170-6star rating 5Mark WinegardenMarch 29, 2011I have used these almost exclusively for the past 8 years. I have used them on a Yamaha RBX-6JM, Warwick Corvette Proline 6, Yamaha TRB-6, OLP Stingray 5, and a Zon Legacy 6. The best thing about them is every time I put them on a bass I know exactly what to expect. They are extremely consistent. They have great feel from string to string, excellent growl and harmonics, long life, and stay in tune. Only downside is they are wound for a 34" scale length, so you may have problems with the b string winding being long enough at the nut. I ran into this on the RBX-6JM. For the 35" scale I would also recommend using a .060 D string as the tension is a better match to the A at this scale length. Overall great strings at a great price.

D'Addario Electric Bass XL Nickel Wound 6 String Bass Long, .032 - .130, EXL170-6star rating 5Greg CriderJuly 25, 2010I've used these strings for decades in their 4- and 6-string versions. They have a good, balanced sound with plenty of highs and controlled lows. No other string that I've found lasts as long, keeps pitch as well, keeps as consistent tone string-to-string, and is as easy on the frets (for round-wounds, that is). I try others, but I always come back to these. My next step is to try a .32-.40-.60-.80-.100-.125 custom set.
