D'Addario Electric Bass ProSteels Long Scale, .040 - .100, EPS190

D'Addario Electric Bass ProSteels Long Scale, .040 - .100, EPS190star rating 3Scott HicksJuly 25, 2011After several months, the extreme brightness (which I liked) and the stickiness (which I did not like) wore off. I like the tone in general now, but unfortunately the E string has started to REALLY eat through the polyester coating on my Pedulla Pentabuzz - a coating put on in 1992 and never redone. (Obviously I need M.Pedulla to recoat the neck, but this string is quite deadly to this coating - the only string I've ever used which really started to damage it) - so, in sum, I'm buying another set of strings and fretless players, beware!
D'Addario Electric Bass ProSteels Long Scale, .040 - .100, EPS190star rating 5EBJuly 9, 2011I'm using these on my Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass V along with a D'Addario Pro Steel .135 Long Taper PSB135T for the low B. The balance of tone and tension is excellent. Very satisfied. I tend to use nickel steel strings on my other basses, but they sounded dull on this bass. The Pro Steels really brought it to life.
D'Addario Electric Bass ProSteels Long Scale, .040 - .100, EPS190star rating 4Scott HicksMarch 25, 2011I put these on my Pedulla 5 string PentaBuzz Fretless. I generally use fully round steel strings, because I play jazz, fusion, and solo bass tapping. I do not use flatwounds or nickel strings, since I do not primarily 'thump' out motown tunes or worry about the strings eating my fingerboard away. But these strings do not feel very smooth at first; they are a bit 'sticky' or rough, which I do not like. They are also VERY bright, which gives me the opportunity to slap on fretless (which is a rarity for me) - I do like that! But they are maybe too bright for me. Thus far (after a week) - I like DR and Dean Markley Blue Steels better (because they have more of a smooth, mid range punch). I like these strings better than the Pedulla nickel strings however. On the other hand, they are quite reasonably priced.
D'Addario Electric Bass ProSteels Long Scale, .040 - .100, EPS190star rating 5FastJanuary 30, 2011I love this line of strings. I usually buy the .035's but went a size up to try them out. They are super bright and stay that way for a while. They have a good feel and hold their tuning. Overall if you are looking for bright strings I recommend any of the ProSteel series.
