C.F. Martin Acoustic Guitar Martin Flexible Core FX Silk & Phosphor .011 - .047, MFX-130star rating 5kabJuly 1, 2011These Strings sound great on my Blueridge 60AS. I'm kind of a string junky, I've tested the following which are all Light and 80/20. Elixir nanos, JP, D addario's, Martin SP's & FX core. Others I've tested are, La Bella Silk & Steel, Martin m130 Folk, JP pure Nickel, GHS vintage Bronze, Red strings, and Phosphor Bronze From Brands Above. Also JP Phosphor Bronze Silk & Steel. My conclusion is that the MFX-130 are my all time favorites. Outstanding Sustain & Definition. Each string truly has a voice of its own blending together for great strumming. They are great for finger style due to their definition. Harmonics are also outstanding not only on the 12th fret, but on some of the more difficult - 9th, 7th, 5th frets. Bar chords are a breeze for quick changes, the tension is slightly higher than the M-130 Folks, but less than 80/20's. I was also surprised that I didn't here any tin on the E & B strings. I'm a fan of the M-130 Folk strings along with the Red Brand Extra Lights or Standard Lights. The M-130 Folks just don't have the volume for me on this size guitar, however they do compare to my description above in every way to the mfx-130. As far as the Red Brand, I like the warmth, the lows and the harmonics of those strings. It comes down to 3 strings for me on this guitar. 1 - MFX130's, 2 - Red Brand Lights or Extra Lights, 3 - M130 Folk Strings. I've been using light strings because I have fat fingers so any extra space between the strings I'll take. At least until I get my parlour guitar. The M130 Folk might really shine on a parlour. I hope someone can find this long winded review useful, Jam on...

I build custom steel string guitars and these work well with my designs even though heavier strings are usually recommended for a dreadnought or larger instrument. Playability is particularly good and they respond well to a very light touch. I plan to make them a standard option on my instruments. Jeff Jay Bluejay Lutherie, CA.

After playing regular bronze strings for a few decades I had to switch to a lighter tension string due to tendinitis issues. I didn't think I'd like the sound or feel that much, but I wasn't pleasantly surprised. They sound great for fingerpicking, the bass strings are a bit mellower, making the guitar sound more balanced. They have great intonation, and because they play easier I seem to play better. However, they don't sound as good for strumming as a regular steel string. I like these a bit more than the Martin Silk & Steels.

The Martin FX strings have superior intonation to any other strings I have played. I spoke about this to the head of Martin strings at their annual Owner's Club Day this past summer and he said that their test equipment confirms it. The silk and steel are easy to play and give that steel sound that nylon or gut do not. Highly recommended.
